In the Tarot cups are hearts because the Holy Grail was the bowl used by Jesus
at the `Last Supper` before his crucifixion, death, Resurrection and Ascension
to heaven. Giving his disciples `bread and wine`, as symbols of fellowship,
Jesus was the human host betrayed by his disciple, Judas, who turned him over
to the Romans as a `dissident` despite Jesus` redemptive teaching:
`Love your
neighbour as you love yourself.` (Mk:
12. 31)
The Holy Grail is a symbol of Jesus` human
feeling for others, which is why the equivalent of cups in the modern pack of
cards are hearts. Spears and swords are diamonds and spades, because of how the
Bible describes peace, He will judge
between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat
their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will

In Christian iconography Jesus` mother, the
Virgin Mary, is depicted as crushing the head of the serpent with her foot,
